As the title says...
I’ve been wanting to get into F1 for quite awhile. Talking with some aficionados has lead me to believe it’s difficult to get into without knowing the proper history.
So plea for help is:
1) Where can I not only learn the history of F1, but learn to appreciate how the history affects the current series?
2) With no cable (in the US) how can I watch a race?
3) What should I need to know?
I’ve obviously read the occasional posts here and on the front page, but I feel like I’m missing so much more than that.
Help an oppo out?

watch the video below, that’s how you can appreciate F1
google ‘f1 streams’, assuming you have internet access during the time of the races
all you need to know is this season is basically over, as MB dominates again

Read the opponaut-started F1 blog: FormulaFreak.kinja.com
Go watch Rush .
When the race is on (the most difficult part is waking up at 4/5 AM for some of the races) you can usually find a good SkySports stream on reddit r/formula1

How can you be lonely when you're #blessed?

Do you like engineering/high-techery? The amount of research and new materials going in to F1 is incredible. Their ability to read the rules and come up with something so out there, see Mercedes with their turbo dealy-o, but that is still within the rules and allows them a huge advantage. Things like this can get you excited without even watching a race.

1) Read Steve Matchett’s books. They detail his time as an F-1 mechanic and are quite good.
2) torrent
3) The amazing thing for me is F-1 is one of the very few sporting competitions where major corporations take part in directly. They build the equipment, run the teams and put it on the track to be tested against their rivals. They bring hundreds f millions of dollars to bare against each other each year. It's mental.

I’m one of the nerdiest nerds when it comes to this. High-techery is my Playboy-with-nudity.

I did try for the last two races. With a 2 yr old in the house, waking up at ungodly hours is easier than it used to be.

Came in here to drop r/formula1’s live classic F1 threads.
Sees fractal was here first and took care of business.
PS: I’m hoping to get the OK from the esposa to go to Austin next year for the gp. It would be awesome if we had an oppo group meetup at the race.

Dude is so boring to watch now. The worst thing they did was put Kimi in a lukewarm Ferrari. I would rather see him back at Lotus, he was more exciting there.

I agree. Regardless, he’s still the most entertaining. Unless there’s a Mercedes flame out the actual race sucks.

.....dude’s been super boring this year. And even partially last year. I would rather watch Hulk, Checo, and the Manor boys.
